Beware the new cash machine scam !!

where crooks can steal your card details drain your account in MINUTES.....

Police have warned ATM users across Britain to be wary after uncovering a new type of theft where bank cards are swallowed by the machines and then duplicated by crooks for use.

A spate of victims in Hertfordshire have reported that their cards had been retained by ATMs. They later found fraudsters had withdrawn cash from their account using a different machine, sometimes within minutes.

One victim said an ATM in Hitchin gobbled up her card before a message appeared on the screen saying that it was unavailable.

She was still standing at the ATM while on the phone to her bank when she saw two withdrawals worth a total of £350 had been made at another machine nearby. There was a further attempt at another location, but the card had been blocked.

Police in Hertfordshire have recorded three other similar cases since January, which appear to be linked.

Thought this needed a heads up.

Not sure this is new, happened to me years ago at Gidea Park. I used to work late as at the time worked in the betting industry. Tried to get some money out at around 11pm and it did not seem to be working properly. An asian bloke appears and tells me the same thing happened to him and if I type in my pin again it should be ok. I smelt a rat and pulled at the card slot and the card emerges attached to some sort of magnet. I ripped up the magnet in front of him and told him to fuck off. My only regret is that I didn't chin the prick. He probably assumed I had been to the pub but having just finished work I was sober. I dashed home and my Dad and me drove round for a bit to find him but he was gone.

What about the scam by the thieving Tory government when petrol prices double and their take via fuel duty also doubles

Dou you mean the fuel duty, which is a fixed, price per litre rate and doesn't move with petrol price increases?

The fuel duty that was CUT 5p a litre, earlier this year?

And hadn't been previously increased since 2011.

Or are you talking about something else?

The government gets a bit more VAT from fuel price increases. Every 10p extra at the pumps, is 1.67p, for the government.

Yeah, that's what I assume it must be as well. Don;t see how else it could work. I remember that other scam as well. Basically it just skimmed cards as they went into the machine, didn't it.

i really don't use cash machines at all these days but I remember that I always had a quick look at the frontage and a quick hand test to see if it looked dodgy or wobbly, if there were a load of scratch marks round the card bit. Especially at ones that weren't at banks

With all these things as long as you are observant, then you should be OK. I expect it's always the elderly who fall for this stuff or fail to spot it, which is a real shame.

Yeah as said, unless this is a whacking great lump on the front of a cashpoint which you ought to notice unless you're some sort of chump, this is a load of bollocks.

In Europe they have this scam where the banks charge you gor taking Euros out of your Euro account. Cheaky cunts

A while back there was a scam where they put a false front on ATMs that simply swallowed the card, which the scammers went and removed later, harvesting and emptying the cards.

This may be a similar type scam but with a card reader and mobile phone built in, sending the card details straight to a scammer..

Does it go into any detail about anything to look for on the machine before you put your card into it, or how it works? It's all good warning there's a scam going round but not if there's zero clues to look out for before inserting your card into the machine.
